Akhuwat Fellowship Program
The Akhuwat Fellowship Program seeks to build and cultivate a community of changemakers, serving as a platform to enable the youth to unlock their potential to drive social change.
Founded in 2011, the Akhuwat Fellowship Program seeks to build and cultivate a community of changemakers, social entrepreneurs, and moral leaders committed to making a difference. Akhuwat has now trained over a thousand young adults to play their part in resolving the varied and complex development challenges facing the world today.
During their time at Akhuwat, fellows get extensive exposure to the various facets of Akhuwat via a comprehensive social development training platform. Their exposure combined with fieldwork, project development, and research provides them with the skills needed to excel in their fields.

Learnings from the Akhuwat Fellowship Program:
The Akhuwat Fellowship Program at Parwaaz teaches its participants the following:
1. Understanding Microfinance
As the world’s largest interest-free microfinance organization, fellows learn about the history behind microfinance and how Akhuwat’s microfinance model operates. Fellows also take part in field visits, interact with beneficiaries and gain an on-ground experience.
2. Innovation in Education
Through case studies, and interactive sessions with expert guest speakers, fellows are encouraged to think critically about the educational landscape in Pakistan, specifically the challenges faced by underprivileged students. Visits are also planned to Akhuwat College where fellows interact with the students and faculty.
3. Gender and Inclusivity
The Fellowship program ensures productive discussions around topics including gender sensitivity, hearing from professionals who are working on the ground to promote a fair, and inclusive society.
4. Social Entrepreneurship
Learning from Akhuwat’s journey, fellows are expected to work in groups to design and execute a social project of their interest in which they create social impact. Throughout this process, the Akhuwat team acts as mentors to guide and support the learning of the fellows.
5. Environment and Advocacy
With the worsening situation of climate change, fellows spend a day learning about the environment, ongoing challenges, their carbon footprint, and what role they can play to contribute positively.
6. Professional Development
Beyond these topics, the fellowship program includes several other themes which focus on the personal and professional development of our fellows. The program urges our fellows to introspect, and develop an empathetic lens and approach to become a change maker.
