Stories of Hope

Akhuwat College Chakwal
After completing my intermediate studies, I wasn’t sure where to pursue higher education. Our financial situation was tough, and with my sister’s wedding coming up, it felt like my dreams were slipping further away. That’s when my father told me about Akhuwat. We completed the application process and submitted it online. Later, I received a call from a ma’am informing me that I had been accepted. I was so overjoyed, I didn’t know how to react. My father was equally thrilled and proud, saying, “You did it!” There was a time when I couldn’t even talk to my family about the dream of going to university, but now, I’m in a position where I can financially support my family by working on various professional projects.

Growing up in Gilgit, a small town with limited opportunities, I dreamed of achieving more. Everything changed when my father discovered Akhuwat, where I earned a BS degree in English without the burden of fees. My time there wasn’t just about academics; I also developed essential life skills through programs like Maimaar Youth Impact, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and the Amal Fellowship. These experiences shaped me into a confident and capable individual ready to take on the challenges ahead. After graduation, I began my career as an intern at AkzoNobel, which soon turned into a full-time role. Today, I’m proud to work as a Pricing Analyst at AkzoNobel, a journey made possible by the opportunities Akhuwat provided. Supporting my family financially is very relieving and I hope to grow more and create a difference.

I am the first person in my family who made it through higher education. Our financial situation was challenging. If my family paid for my education, they wouldn’t have been able to afford daily meals. Then, I found Akhuwat’s fully-funded scholarship. At first, I thought it was a joke, I couldn’t believe a university could offer free education, and residency, and cover all expenses. But it was not a joke. I was accepted, and my journey at Akhuwat College for Women in Chakwal began. Now, I’m professionally working at Akhuwat Parwaaz, gaining confidence and giving back to my community. My dream is to pursue a Ph.D. and help improve the education system in my region.
