Akhuwat began two decades ago with modest resources and a vision inspired by the spirit of Mawakhat—solidarity between the haves and have-nots. The founding belief was simple: the people in need, particularly those without access to financial services, deserve the opportunity to improve their lives. With this in mind, Akhuwat started offering interest-free loans, aiming to bring individuals and families into the fold of financial inclusion.
Fast forward to 2024, and Akhuwat’s journey has been nothing short of transformative. With over 800 branches across Pakistan, Akhuwat has successfully disbursed the following number of loans
- Punjab: 5, 098, 926 Number of loans
- Sindh: 220,921 Number of loans
- Balochistan: 59, 974 Number of loans
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 544, 855 Number of loans
- Azad Jammu Kashmir: 135,265 Number of loans
The total disbursements of interest-free loans have exceeded PKR 230 billion. This achievement has empowered over 6 million families across Pakistan, providing them with the means to rebuild their lives, pursue education, and secure livelihoods. Financial inclusion of the underprivileged creates sustainable pathways out of poverty and breaks the cycle of deprivation. Currently, we have over 608K active loans spread across 400+ cities, touching more than 6.26 million lives nationwide. What’s truly remarkable is the 99.9% recovery rate of these loans, a testament to the commitment and integrity of the communities we serve.
One of the most profound moments in Akhuwat’s history was our response to the 2022 floods, which devastated millions across the country. In the face of unprecedented destruction, Akhuwat rose to the challenge by helping rebuild over 6,000 homes. These houses, built with the support of our donors and the resilience of the affected communities, stand as a symbol of hope and recovery. Through these efforts, we’ve been able to restore a sense of dignity and stability to families whose lives were upended by the floodwaters.
